136 Paris, France, 9th arrondissement, St Eugene and St Cecilia
Built on the orders of Napoleon the Third, and Jules Verne got married here. The church is mostly neo-Gothic, but controversial for its use of metal, which makes it look spectacular, I think. It was in the news a few years ago because they celebrated a Latin mass during the covid crisis, and noone was wearing masks. They got fined.
Saint Eugène was one of Saint Denis’s mates back in the third century AD,
and was decapitated for being Christian. Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of
musicians.
The colours are the prettiest thing
about the church, but it is also interesting to see the Stations of the Cross
in stained glass. Fabulous ornate pulpit.
