29 Montreal, Quebec, Cathédrale Marie-Reine du Monde

The cathedral of Mary Queen of the World, in Montreal.
19th century basilica built for the French-speaking Catholics of the town, partly to annoy the English-speaking Protestants (Anglicans). It is closely based on St Peter’s in Rome. Magnificent ornate canopy over the altar. Around the church, a series of paintings depict scenes from the history of Quebec.
